  • Agnetapark J.C. van Markenplein 10 2613 AE Delft

A residential area built between 1884 and 1886 as an initiative of J.C. van Marken. The very first factory estate in the Netherlands, intended for employees of the Yeast and Spirit Factory founded by Van Marken. Named after his wife Agneta, who was of great importance to the company. Garden architect L.P. Zocher created a park in the English landscape style, with winding paths around a pond. Groups of terraced houses in a country style are by E. Gugel and F.N.L. Kerkhoff. Agnetapark was self-sufficient and had its own shop and school.
The so-called “Old Park” was expanded between 1925 and 1929 on the west side with a new residential area. This “New Park” by Amsterdam architect J. Gratama was laid out in a sober, symmetrical design around a rectangular water feature.  The landscaping and planting scheme was designed by H. Roeters van Lennep in 1931.
Characteristic for the new part are the steep, angled roofs of the residential blocks and the garden fences with block-hedges.
Distinctive buildings:
• the former printing-works of Marken from 1890
• community building from 1892 by architect B. Schelling
• former recreational building ‘De Tent’ from 1914 by H. Evers, now named Van Heinde en Ver
