Boiler house with chimney pipe and engineer’s house (1903). Used to heat several buildings of the Polytechnic School (later TU). Architect Jacobus van Lokhorst designed this monumental building in traditional artisan style. Redesigned in 2018 by Vakwerk Architects using circular building materials. Glass functions as a transparent connection between old and new parts, thus yielding special views of the historic building. Building currently offers space for offices, conferences, and catering.
Strategically located between TU and the city centre, Vakwerkhuis is of social significance for the entire neighbourhood.
